About Steve Smyth

I spent the first 11+ years of my career in the sports & entertainment industry specializing in partnership marketing and sales. I was going down the traditional path that we’re all taught to be successful, which is to go to school, get good grades, get a job, work way up the company, get married, have kids, rinse and repeat.

Until I finally hit a dead end in my career, missing out on a big promotion at Madison Square Garden and being caught in the party scene for a decade numbing myself finally took a toll and I hit rock bottom.

For the first time in my life, I was at a crossroads with my career and life. I kept asking, “Do I continue to work in sports?” or do I try to find something completely new”? I knew I needed to change or things were going to get worse. My uncle was a big mentor of mine growing up and a big follower of personal development for over 30 years and often spoke about how it impacted his life. My uncle’s journey inspired me to attend my first personal growth seminar which started one of my spiritual awakenings and opened me up to new possibilities. During the first day of the seminar, I redefined what success meant to me, which is to get better in all the different areas of life and to keep playing better in those areas.
After the seminar, I had all this motivation and energy I never felt before that forced me to go within and ask deep provoking questions of who I am, what my gifts are and what is my purpose. During this process is where I then hired my first ever life coach to help guide me on my personal growth journey to step more into my purpose and align my energy. I remember being so scared signing up for a coach and realized that one decision changed my life forever. After the first session, I was inspired to become a coach. The very next day, I had a huge epiphany where I attended a yoga class with my partner Ali. At the end of the class, they handed out two cards to everyone. The first card said “Teach you have an amazing gift to teach and help others” and the second card said “allow”. At that moment, I experienced a flood of emotions and feelings and started to cry. Prior to starting my personal growth journey, I wasn’t one to express my emotions so I knew that was a sign to pursue this path. Months later, the universe had other plans for me as I was set free from Madison Square Garden due to COVID canceling sports so I began my self-discovery journey and decided to fully step into coaching where I invested in one of the most intense personal growth coaching programs around at Coachville, The Center for Coaching Mastery where I became certified as a Professional Coach all through the International Coaching Federation.
My Transformation story continued to evolve as during my coaching with my Tony Robbins Result Coach, I got the idea that I wanted to work for Tony since he was one of the catalysts in my life at the time. That opportunity came around, where I was selected out of 1,500 applications to go through Tony’s 3 phase vigorous Coaching Academies to potentially become a Results coach for Tony. Well, my dream came true and I was 1 of 50 coaches who were selected to work at Robbins Research International that year. This is where I coached people from all ages and in all areas of life. I learned about the human journey and how to help get people out of suffering states to experience transformation. During coaching with Tony Robbins, I felt another tap on the shoulder to keep pursuing my self discovery. It was really hard to let go of working for one of the best business strategists and coaches in the world. I realized I wasn’t vibing with the fast paced intense energy anymore and realized a lot of people don’t resonate with that. That this isn’t what life is about, kicking ass and corporate capitalism. I see life about self discovery, freedom and self expression and caring for each other and you can do that in business. That’s when I decided to fully step into Steve Smyth Coaching to become a Holistic Business Coach.
Then I started to work with a friend who was helping me scale and automate my business and I had a huge realization as we were building out the content strategy. That putting all my eggs into coaching wasn’t what I really wanted to do. Yes, I love coaching and helping people transform their life but I wasn’t fully fulfilled doing just that. The internal voice I’ve been following on my self discovery journey was whispering to me again. It was telling me to pursue my passion of music, spirituality and wellness. I’ve heard this voice for awhile when I was coaching but often ignored it. I’ve been practicing breathwork for a few years now and I joined SOMA Breath to become certified in breathwork while I was a coach. I was walking side by side on both paths but noticed it was tough to balance both as the breathwork path required deeper learning and understanding of music production, creating sound journeys and guided meditations. Then I made the decision to fully commit to breathwork and try this path. It had everything I loved, especially being back around my passion for music. I’m able to craft my own sound journeys and create transformation through the power of breathwork, sound and guided meditations.
It wasn’t until I pursued my self discovery journey and really diving deep into my inner self, that I started unraveling years of trauma, emotions and self-expression that I buried deep within myself. After practicing expressing myself with a coach and clearing space within my unconscious mind through breathwork sound journeys and the deep inner work did I truly awaken, become more confident and have a deeper awareness of who I am.
I believe practicing and strengthening your self-expression is so important in life. Not only does self-expression attract what you want in life but I believe by being bold and expressing yourself, you’ll attract your community of people who vibe most with you and really grow your business. My life mission is dedicated around empowering others to step more into their bold authentic self-expression, putting their thoughts, feelings and ideas out in the world with their creative essence and really going for their dreams. I believe self-expression is the pathway to happiness. Breathwork and having a coach in my corner has helped me get there.
Today I’m a SOMA Breath Advanced Instructor and transformational coach where I create massive transformation for all my clients through the power of breathwork, sound therapy, guided meditation and personal coaching. I received my coaching education through Coachville, The Center for Coaching Mastery, where I was certified through the International Coaching Federation as a PCC coach and personally coached by the CEO and one of the first ever life coaches, Dave Buck. Additionally, I went through extensive training with Robbins Research International to become a Results Coach for Tony Robbins. I worked alongside the top 3% of coaches in the world and personally coached hundreds of people through transformational life and business journeys. I was also certified as a breathwork instructor at SOMA Breath, a holistic, rhythmic breathwork system that incorporates the principles of pranayama, paired with sound healing, visualization and personalization. I now bring all of my heart, soul, and experience into Steve Smyth Breathwork and Coaching to guide you on your next transformation journey.

What style of Breathwork does Steve practice in his sessions?

Steve practices SOMA Breath which was founded by Niraj Naik and is a complete holistic system of breathwork techniques. SOMA Therapeutic breathwork techniques are the core pranayama techniques that have the most scientific evidence to support their function. What sets SOMA apart is the music and breathing to the beat of the music with produced brainwave entertainment music created by Niraj.

Modern counterparts such as rebirthing, holotropic breathwork and transformational breath focus on one method that hyperventilates the body. These should be done with caution as oxygen creates oxidative stress in the body, and are not for regular use because of this reason.

SOMA the awakening is something that can be practiced more regularly and can only lead to positive health and psychological benefits.

What is SOMA Breath?

SOMA breathwork is a sequence of ancient pranayama breathwork techniques combined with trypnaural brainwave music and guided inner sensing that awakens you to your full human potential where real magic can happen. Awaken dormant powers of the mind, supercharging and purifying your blood and nervous system for more energy, vitality and increase your magnetic power of attraction. All backed by science.

Who is breathwork for and not for?

SOME Breath is for everyone regardless of age, race, color or religion. If you can breathe, you can awaken. If it's your first time and want to try it out, reach out to Steve and he will assist to ensure you have an awesome first experience.

You want to avoid certain parts of the breath retention holds during the journey (holding your breath in and out) if you have specific contraindications (if your pregnant, have COPD, epilepsy, cardiovascular / heart conditions, pacemakers, acute or severe illnesses or a recent surgery) but the rhythmic breathing is safe for everyone. You should not do Soma Breath while driving or after a full meal, in the water or if you're sick.

We strongly recommend checking with your doctors beforehand.

Is Breathwork safe?

Yes, anyone can do breathwork. It’s important to first practice with a trained SOMA Breath Instructor to learn the breathing techniques. The awakening ritual should be done with caution as it can result in physiological or physical changes, like emotional releases. As a precaution if you have any of the following contraindications it's important to check with your doctor beforehand.

  • Pregnant
  • Acute somatic or viral diseases
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD-II and COPD-III_
  • Chronic diseases with symptoms of decompensation or terminal illness
  • Individual intolerance of oxygen insufficiency
  • Cancer, unless IHT is prescribed by a doctor
  • People with epilepsy, pacemakers or heart arrhythmias, unless treatment (including IHT) is under direct medical supervision)

How do I prepare for a SOMA Breath Session?

Wear comfortable clothes. Yoga style clothing is perfect. All breathwork techniques should be done with an empty stomach in a safe space. So either in the morning before breakfast after hydrating with water, or at least 1-2 hours before eating a full meal. If a session is virtual and you have headphones or nice speakers, those are always great to enhance your experience. In person experiences, speakers or headphones will be provided.

Can I do breathwork on my own?

Yes you can but it's recommended you learn the style of breathing from a SOMA Breath Instructor first. With an instructor you can go deeper into yourself releasing blocks, creating a new reality for yourself and helping with integration which is super important.

What got Steve into Breathwork?

After attending my first personal growth seminar, it sparked my self discovery journey to explore and learn more about myself. I started changing my habits and focusing on how to improve my health and well being to reach peak performance. When your physical body is in a great state, all the other things start to align. This set me on a journey to explore breathwork, where I was first introduced to it by Wim Hof and was practicing his breathing and cold exposure techniques to get my body into peak states and train my nervous system to better regulate the everyday stresses of working in corporate and living in today's society.

Then my partner and I took two trips to Tulum, Mexico and during each trip, our breathwork practices and self discovery journeys went even deeper. The first trip we attended a Wim Hof workshop that his daughters were hosting and after that workshop I was truly hooked on breathwork. We went back to Tulum a few months later and met someone hosting a workshop who blew my mind. There was a dj mixing live music and a facilitator guiding us through a meditation and deep breathing journey. I had such a profound experience where I was tapped into my unconscious mind unlocking memories that were dormant in my body and altering my states of consciousness through my breath. I left feeling blissful and at peace and I knew this was something I needed to explore further.

I was so inspired, that I inquired about it and she mentioned this guy Niraj Naik from SOMA Breath was teaching and training people to do this work. As soon as I got home, my partner and I signed up for the SOMA Breath 21 day awakening journey where I saw visions of incorporating breathwork into my coaching practice and creating a huge business with it. From those insights, I signed up to become an instructor and the rest is history.

I personally use breathwork to regulate my nervous system, master my emotions, to reprogram my mind from old conditioning and beliefs holding me back from my dreams and most importantly discover and realize who I am. I truly believe realizing who you are is the purpose of life and our breath gives us the opportunity to do that. Breathwork has helped me create the holistic wellness business and lifestyle I currently have.
